English Cocker Spaniel breeders California

The English Cocker Spaniel (ECS) is a relatively rare breed in the US. The American Kennel Club (AKC) registers about 1, 500 ECS per year, as compared to over 40, 000 for the most popular breeds in the US. My personal belief is that this is due to ECS breeders in the US who breed their dogs carefully, screen homes to match puppies with good, loving homes, etc. As a result, please be patient if interested in acquiring an ECS for your family. The right dog will come along and will be well worth the wait!

Also, please consider the following sources of information for adoption or to acquire puppies:

  • Consider English Cocker Rescue through the English Cocker Spaniel Club of America (ECSCA). We assist with this rescue program in Southern California and would be happy to assist you through the process. We are fortunate not to have a constant stream of dogs through our rescue program, but when we do have dogs available, a new loving home can make all the difference. Adoption applications, information on available dogs, etc. are available on the ECSCA site.
  • Contact us at "information at stirling dash ecs dot org" (sorry, spam is getting bad). We will occasionally have a litter of our own (next planned Winter 2006).

We can share our breeding , for your reference, as you speak to breeders.

It may take 6-9 months to get a puppy. ECS only 1, 500 register dogs/year with the AKC - Labradors register over 160, 000. Please be patient & you will find the right dog for your family!

What are the breeding philosophies at Stirling English Cockers?

We make every attempt to breed sound, healthy English Cockers with good temperaments. Our dogs are raised to be a part of our family and we do our best to expose puppies to new people, experiences and situations, so they are prepared for the world at large. Our puppies are generally placed after 10-12 weeks, so they are past the fear imprinting stage.

We follow recently revised vaccine protocols to avoid shocks to puppy immune systems and use genetic testing and health clearance testing extensively when breeding. We do our best to avoid propagating health problems in the breed. For additional information, please see our Stirling FAQs page.
