The United Canine Association recognized and began recording registration for the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel in 2002.


Breed Characteristics: The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is distinguished by their longer nose and heavier build from the toy Spaniels.

Cavalier King Charles Spaniel have beautiful large dark eyes. The fur of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is long and silk like, with a regal appearance.

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel comes in four color varieties and those are: black and tan, ruby, blenheim, or tri.

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a short, smaller dog, although the largest of the toy breeds.

Cavalier King Charles Spaniel muzzles are short and blunt. The breed is well known for its long drooping ears that are covered in feathery soft fur.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are a loving dog, they are good natured and warmhearted with children. Cavalier King Charles Spaniel make an excellent companion for the young and old alike, with a friendly and obedient disposition.

Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are not excessively energetic, but at the same time they love to play.

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is known to be a spirited, lively little dog with a cheerful disposition, they are sociable with both people and other dogs.
Country of Origin: Cavalier King Charles Spaniel originate from England and remain one of the most popular dogs in that country.

Weight: The weight distribution of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is to be in proportion to the height but is usually between 10 - 18 lbs.

Height: When measured at the withers the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is 12 to 13 inches tall.
Coat: Cavalier King Charles Spaniels have a long, silky, straight or wavy, but free from curl. They have ample feathering.

Color: The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel comes in four color types and those are: Black and Tan - Black with tan markings above the eyes, on cheeks, inside ears, on chest and legs, and underside of tail. Tan should be bright. White markings are unwanted.

Ruby - Rich red or a chestnut. White markings are undesirable.

Blenheim - Rich chestnut markings well broken-up on a pearly white background. The red on the head of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is required to extend around the eyes as well as down over the ears. There should be a white blaze between the eyes and ears in the center of which is the "Blenheim Spot" unique within the Blenheim Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, a highly desirable, but not essential characteristic of the Blenheim colored Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

Tri-color. Dark black markings well broken-up on a pearly white background with tan markings over the eyes, on cheeks, inside ears, inside legs, and on underside of tail. Any other color, or combination of colors, is highly undesirable

Temperament: Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are affectionate, devoted to owner, lively, sensible and sweet. The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel has loving tender temperament. The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is gentle, playful, affectionate and very wiling to please.

With Children:
Cavalier King Charles Spaniel are good with children.

With Pets:
Cavalier King Charles Spaniel do well with other pets.
Trainability: The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is an intelligent breed.

Activity Level: Low to Medium. Cavalier King Charles Spaniels require minimum exercise, but they should be exercised regularly however.
