English Springer Spaniel
The versatile English Springer Spaniel has a life expectancy of 12 to 14 years.
The first recorded mention of the spaniel breed appear in documents from the 16th century. The spaniel was believed to have originated in Spain then spread throughout Europe by the Romans.
In England, two types of spaniels were developed from the same litter. The smaller Spaniels, called “Cockers, ” were used to hunt woodcocks. The larger Spaniels, called “Springers, ” were used to flush out or “spring” birds and other game. By 1902, the English Springer Spaniel and Cocker Spaniel would come to be known as two distinct breeds.
The English Springer Spaniel is a sturdy dog that weighs 35 to 50 pounds and 19 to 20 inches.
The English Springer Spaniel has a double coat that is either flat or wavy with feathering on their bellies, chests, legs and ears. The English Springer Spaniel’s coat should be brushed three times a week, bathed monthly and professionally trimmed every six to eight weeks.
