Overview

Smaller, Tibetan Spaniels are intelligent and assertive being originated over 2 thousand and five hundred years ago in Mountains of Himalaya in Tibet. It share its ancestry with Shih Tzu, Japanese chin, Pekingese, Pug and Lhasa Apso. It often mistaken with Pekingese but there is less profuse coat; rather longer face and extra skin around eyes are some little differences between both breeds. Tibetan Spaniels are low to ground with rather longer than tall body. It is famous as companion dog primarily in native country o Tibet, in addition to companionship it also now found in Obedience, conformation and agility rings in U.S. The breed may adopt any of color including cream to gold and sable with some white markings allowed only on feet by AKC. It is not only bold enough but also independent with a stubbornness also biddable yet sensitive. Its ever happy nature makes them a brilliant house pet that likes to take pleasure from gaming and outing with family. It likes to take pleasure from dozing off next to its beloved person. The graceful Tibetan Spaniel is an outstanding enjoyable family dog in addition to being cordial and nicely treated with kids, other dog. It is good with kids but reserved with strangers. It may adopt an apartment life without any special exercise. It is comparatively inactive indoors can does well indoor with no yard. It will require a fair amount of exercise to stay content and fit. Exercises may include daily long walks, run and romp in yard. Tibetan Spaniels can be somewhat difficult to train. If you let him to be a pack leader it can dominant and over protecting, this leads it to not trustworthy with children and wary of strangers with aggression. An untrained and unexercised Tibetan spaniel may grow small dog syndrome in its behavior that leads him to destruction of temperament. With least grooming requirements, it should be brushed regularly because it is an average shedding breed throughout the year; coat may come out in clumps once a year. Healthy breed in general but some may prone to respiratory issues moreover it may susceptible to heatstroke; it does not do well in very hot season. The height of Tibetan Spaniel is 10 inches at shoulder while weight is 10 to 15 pounds. Life expectancy of breed is 12 to 15 years. The average litter size of Tibetan Spaniel is 3 to 6 puppies. In 1983 AKC recognized it.

Tibetan Spaniel History

Tibetan Spaniels are seen in Eastern art of dating back about to 1100 BC. It was valued as house pets and companion in Tibetan monasteries. It usually considered as “little Lions” by their owners, they usually performing watchmen duty to sit over wall of monastery. Its development was influenced by other countries including china where it traveled as gift. AKC recognized it in 1983 as non sporting breed.
