King Charles Spaniel Club UK

Humberside Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club is the youngest of the Cavalier Clubs in Great Britain and the Millennium sees the celebration of its tenth year with Championship Show status.

There was a definite need in the early eighties with the ever increasing popularity of the breed, shows tended to be held in the central Eastern Counties, as the Eastern Society's shows were held in Norfolk and the Northern Society's held their shows in North Yorkshire or Cumbria.

The Kennel Club advised an inaugural meeting be convened after a petition spearheaded by Jean Grant with over 200 signatures obtained in support of a new club. The meeting was held on 27th May 1984 at the Outwood Memorial Hall, Wakefield, and attended by upwards of 75 Cavalier enthusiasts. It was overwhelmingly approved to form a new Cavalier Club focusing on the general area of

Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, Humberside, Derbyshire and North Notts.

The first President was Irene Booth (Bowstones). The first Chairman was Bill Patterson (Cubacroft)and the first Secretary Jean Grant (Granasil).

The committee worked tirelessly to raise funds and in May 1985 the club received formal acknowledgement of registration from the Kennel Club. The first Open show on 1st December 1985 was held at Chapeltown Sheffield.

Throughout the eighties the Club continued to develop with an ever-increasing membership and three well supported shows each year (two Open shows and one Limited Show). In 1991 the Club was awarded Championship show status which was held (and still is to this day) at Newark and Notts Showground with our Open and Limited shows being held at Brodsworth Miners Welfare Hall, Woodlands, Doncaster.
